In a significant development, Nitish Rana’s move to rejoin Delhi ahead of the new domestic season has taken a crucial step forward. Reports confirm that the southpaw has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), clearing the way for him to play for another state.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the UPCA has confirmed that they have no objection to Rana representing another state association.

Rana Set to Return to Delhi After Two Years

Nitish Rana has been a part of Delhi’s team since his debut, and also led the side until 2023. On August 20, 2023, he made a surprising move to Uttar Pradesh. There were speculations that the 31-year-old was unhappy after Yash Dhull was assigned the leadership role, and that he had a few altercations with young talents in the team, such as Hrithik Shokeen.

Now, reports indicate that Rana is looking for a homecoming and is all set to represent Delhi again after two years.

Why Did Nitish Decide to Leave UP?

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, the UPCA chief executive officer confirmed that Rana’s decision to leave was due to family reasons.

“The experienced batter asked for an NOC, and we have given it to him. He mentioned family reasons for his decision,” the UPCA chief executive officer said.

Recently, Nitish Rana and his wife, Saachi Marwah, welcomed twin boys on June 16, 2025. The move back to Delhi could also be motivated by this major life event.

How Did Nitish Rana Perform for UP?

Rana captained Uttar Pradesh over the past two seasons. In the 2024–25 domestic season, he scored 150 runs in six innings across four Ranji Trophy matches, with just one half-century. He also participated in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20s, managing 111 runs in nine matches. Rana played only two matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy before being dropped from the side due to poor form.
