With the excitement of IPL 2024 now behind us, anticipation for IPL 2025 is already building. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has proposed retaining the '3+1' retention rule for the upcoming mega auction.

This rule allows franchises to retain three players and secure an additional player using the Right To Match (RTM) card.

The '3+1' rule aims to ensure parity in the league and maintain interest in the auction. Under this rule, franchises can match the highest bid for a player they had previously released, effectively buying them back at the auction price.

As the term '1 RTM' trends on Twitter, fans are sharing mixed reactions and suggesting which players to retain or how it affects team combinations and most of them look confused.

One user explained, "RTM means a team can buy their former player for the same rate as he has been sold at the auction."

Another user commented, "Mostly, no team agrees with this rule. Every team wants to retain more players."

Ahead of the next IPL, all franchises will have to let go off majority of their players to bring balance in the league.
