Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has voiced his opinions about the inclusion of cricket of all abilities in the Paralympics, following the return of cricket at the Olympics in the upcoming LA Olympics 2028 in the T20 format.

One sport that had once been a part of the Olympics, cricket, was notably absent from the lineup for 128 years; however, after much deliberation, it was recently announced that it would return, marking a significant moment in sports history.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) 2023 announced the inclusion of cricket, and recently, a viral video of Niccolo Campriani, president of the Los Angeles Local Organising Committee, is gaining traction.

In the video, he passionately discusses cricket’s increasing popularity in the USA, especially after recently hosting the T20 World Cup. He urged Indian stunner Virat Kohli to use his popular social media platform to engage the youth, a call that is gaining momentum.

“Cricket offers a unique platform to engage the youth. Consider my friend Virat—he’s the third-most followed athlete on social media worldwide, with 314 million followers. This figure surpasses the combined following of LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Tiger Woods. The inclusion of cricket in the Olympics is a significant victory for LA 28.”

Adding on to this, Nathan Lyon urged England, India and Australia's cricket board to push the idea about adding all abilities cricket to the paralympics. While making this appeal he also tagged Virat Kohli to push the idea forward.

“And let’s add All Abilities cricket to the Paralympics @ECB_cricket @CricketAus @BCCI @imVkohli @Vk18xCr7,”

On the cricketing front, Nathan Lyon made an appearance against New Zealand in March 2024.
