Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led his team from the front with a fighting century against Arjun Tendulkar’s Goa in their Elite Group C match of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy season. Batting at number five and stepping into the crease at 2-3 in the second over, Gaikwad punched out a regal 134* from 131 balls with eight fours and six huge sixes at the Dr Soni Stadium in Jaipur.
The innings marked his 20th List A hundred, and his second century of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy as the 28-year-old continues to knock on India’s selection doors for a possible ODI recall.
Ruturaj Gaikwad responds to Agarkar’s selection panel with fighting ton
Mere days after getting excluded from Team India squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, despite excelling with the bat just a month ago against South Africa, Ruturaj Gaikwad responded to his latest 50-overs snub by smashing a remarkable counterattacking century for Maharashtra in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Batting at number five, the prolific right-hander belted 134* from just 131 balls with eight fours and six huge sixes to record his second century and third fifty-plus score of the ongoing tournament. The cricketer arrived to the crease at 2-3, soon to be 25-5 and eventually to 52-6 around 21 overs before his blistering knock blazed Maharashtra to a competitive 249-7 in 50 overs against Goa bowlers.
Ruturaj Gaikwad even shared a 106-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Vicky Ostwal (53 off 82), and another 91 runs with Rajvardhan Hangargekar (32* off 19) from just the remaining 42 deliveries to spark Maharashtra’s late surge.
It is worth noting that Ruturaj Gaikwad last played for India during the ODI series against South Africa a month ago, before he was dropped from the national squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand. In his previous innings for Team India, the CSK skipper bludgeoned 105 off 83 balls against the Proteas bowlers in Raipur.
