In a significant development, Mumbai Indians have brought in 23-year-old Mujeeb Ur Rahman for IPL 2025 as a replacement of Allah Ghazanfar. The five-time-champions had to make the move after Ghazanfar, their 4.8 Cr buy from the recent mega auction, suffered a lower back fracture which ruled him out of the upcoming Champions Trophy for Afghanistan.

"Mumbai Indians picked Mujeeb-ur-Rahman as a replacement for Allah Ghazanfar for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025," an IPL statement read, confirming the development.

Mumbai had to fight hard against Kolkata Knight Riders to get Ghazanfar, the 18-year-old spinner who was in imperious form before picking up the injury. He was with KKR in the previous edition and reached new heights from then on. 21 wickets in 11 ODIs speak volumes, and his economy rate 4.05 shows he is here to stay.

However, his injury became a blessing in disguise for Mujeeb, who remained unsold in the mega auction. Mujeeb played 19 matches in IPL and picked up as many wickets, and he will now play for MI after signing a contract worth INR 2 crore.

Where Is Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman Right Now?

Mujeeb has been one of the most consistent spinners for Afghanistan for some time, particularly in T20Is. With an average of 18.11 and an economy rate of 6.33, he has claimed 63 wickets in 49 matches for his country in the shortest format.

In IPL, Mujeeb has represented two franchises: Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. However, due to Ghazanfar's rise and Noor Ahmad's presence, along with Rashid Khan's dominance, his graph became tad low lately. Nevertheless, a golden opportunity for Mumbai Indians might help him to get things back on track.
