CSK zealot MS Dhoni drilled 28 unbeaten runs off just nine deliveries against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match number 34 of the IPL 2024 season. The cricketer bashed three boundaries and a couple of huge sixes during his thunderous cameo, and stormed CSK to a competitive 176-run total with two big overs off Mohsin Khan and Yash Thakur at the death.

Notably, MS Dhoni also attained a significant IPL batting record through the course of his finishing fury at Lucknow’s Ekana International Stadium.

MS Dhoni unlocks huge IPL landmark

MS Dhoni, who made his IPL debut back during its inaugural chapter in 2008, notched up the 5,000th run of his tournament-career as a wicketkeeper-batter through his sizzling nine-ball 28* against LSG in 2024.

In doing so, Dhoni became the first-ever wicketkeeper in IPL history to breach the landmark figure, achieving it in his 257th game. Overall, the 42-year-old has tallied 5,169 runs in his IPL career at a splendid average of nearly 40.

Earlier in the match, CSK opener Ajinkya Rahane charted a fluent 36 at the top of the order amidst the early dismissals of Rachin Ravindra, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shivam Dube. Ravindra Jadeja later led CSK’s run-scoring charge with an imperial half-century, and he received much assistance from fellow big-hitting all-rounder Moeen Ali.

After Moeen was holed out by Ayush Badoni with just a couple of overs remaining in the innings, MS Dhoni turbo-charged CSK from 141-6 to a 176-run finish by the competition of their 20 overs.
