Ravichandran Ashwin, the veteran Indian spinner shocked the entire nation as he announced his retirement from international cricket. A veteran of 106 Tests, Ashwin announced the decision after the conclusion of the third Test at Gabba.

The retirement was on the cards prior to the series, but Rohit Sharma convinced the spinner to play the Pink-Ball Test match. However, Ashwin decided not to stay with the team for the remainder of the series as the champion spinner will fly back home tomorrow.

In his elusive Test career, Ashwin has broken several records and has carved a brilliant career for himself, while also finishing as the second highest wicket-takers in Tests for India.

He picked up more than 500 Test wickets and finished as the seventh highest wicket-taker in the game's longest format.

R Ashwin, career at glance

After a successful stint with the Chennai Super Kings, R Ashwin was promoted to the Indian side under the leadership of MS Dhoni. He immediately made a name for himself as he cemented his place in the national team with some stellar performances.

Over the years, he changed his priority from white-ball cricket to red-ball cricket and prolonged his career. The champion bowler was a force to reckon at home and scalped 37 five-wicket hauls in his illustrious career.
