In the latest turn of events, Pakistan's wicketkeeper, Mohammad Rizwan, has been appointed as the vice-captain of the national T20I team. He will assume the role of deputy to Shaheen Afridi in the upcoming five-match series in New Zealand.

Notably, Shaheen Afridi was named the captain of the Pakistan T20I team after Babar Azam resigned from all captaincy roles following Pakistan's subpar showing in the 2023 World Cup held in India last year.

The team led by Shaheen Afridi is set to kick off their preparations for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup with a series against New Zealand. The first T20I is slated for January 12 in Auckland, with the final match scheduled for January 21.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to their official social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), to confirm the development.

Earlier on January 8, the Pakistan team arrived in Auckland from Sydney in preparation for the series against New Zealand. The Men in Green will commence training for the upcoming series. Notably, this marks Shaheen Afridi's first assignment as the regular captain of Pakistan.
