In a significant development, Australia star, Mitchell Marsh has been given the green light to play in the upcoming IPL 2025 season, but only as a batter. Marsh, who was ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a back injury, will join his new team, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and is expected to travel early next week.

When Did Mitchell Marsh Get Injured?

The 33-year-old all-rounder was sidelined on January 31 due to lower back pain, which ended his domestic season. His injury was linked to a disc issue he had been managing since Australia’s T20I tour of England in September 2024. After seeing a specialist in February and taking time to rest, Marsh has now resumed batting.

While he is still not fit enough to bowl, he has been cleared to play as a specialist batter in the IPL. LSG bought him for Rs 6.50 Crore at last year’s IPL mega auction, and he is expected to play a key role as a top-order batter.

Mitchell Marsh Returns to Action

Marsh is set to join LSG on March 18, where he will reunite with Justin Langer, his former coach at Perth Scorchers. He was last seen in action during the competitive match on January 7 in the Big Bash League (BBL). He missed the final two games of the BBL season to rest.

Marsh previously played for Delhi Capitals in the last three IPL seasons but struggled with injuries. Last year, he suffered a hamstring injury after just four games and had to return home for rehabilitation before leading Australia in the T20 World Cup.

The right-handed batter has also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rising Pune Supergiants, Pune Warriors, and Deccan Chargers in the past.
