Missing the T20 World Cup 2021 was one of the low points in my career: Lockie Ferguson

Kiwi speedster Lockie Ferguson has been predominantly known for his deadly pace and accurate yorkers. In the recent IPL edition, Ferguson bowled the most number of yorkers (20) out of all the overseas bowlers.

Ferguson has played in the IPL finals for two consecutive years (with the KKR in the 2021 edition) and was a part of the recent and emerging champions Gujarat Titans.

After the 2021 IPL edition, when he was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders' bowling arsenal, he sustained a calf injury that ruled him out of the T20 World Cup 2021 in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in October-November.

"Definitely. Yeah. Of course. That [missing the 2021 T20 World Cup] was probably one of the low points in my career. Missing that opportunity, particularly in the UAE, where I have had some success in the IPL. I was feeling good about my bowling leading into that tournament. And always joining my good mates and playing for the Black Caps is something I cherish," Ferguson said during an interview with ESPNcricinfo.

We've got a lot of cricket and a lot of travel coming up: Ferguson

Ferguson, who played for the IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans, stated that he is working hard to improve his skills in preparation for the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.

"You can't look back too much, and you must look forward. We've got a lot of cricket and a lot of travel coming up, then home for a little bit and a few series leading into the World Cup. So, there is an opportunity there to work on my game and make sure that it's as good as possible leading into that World Cup. We have got an exciting squad again. And the boys enjoy playing World Cups," he added.

The Black-cap pacer has played 37 ODIs and 15 T20Is and has scalped 69 and 25 wickets, respectively, with two five-wicket hauls. Now, the 31-year-old pacer will face Andrew Balbirnie's Ireland in a three-match ODI series and three-match T20I series.
