Chakravarthy dismissed Phillips [Source: @StarSportsIndia/X.com]
The inclusion of Varun Chakravarthy in the India lineup was a masterstroke by the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The bold call was criticised by many, but the wily spinners responded with a breath-taking spell against the Kiwis in the group stage match, and once again came to haunt them in the finals of Champions Trophy.
Dram ball to shatter Phillips' stumps
On a Dubai pitch which had plenty of assist for the spinners, Chakravarthy was at his absolute best as the New Zealand batters found it difficult to deal with his deliveries. He started the carnage with the wicket of the dangerous Will Young, but the highlight of his superb spell was the dram ball to knock over Glenn Phillips.
The Kiwi batter looked astute upto that moment, but the Indian spinner had some other plans as he bowled a googly on a length and it drifted back in to shatter the stumps. Phillips was waiting for the leg-break, but he got deceived by the delivery as the batter was bamboozled by a magic ball.
The scalp was crucial as Phillips, alongside Daryl Mitchell were forging a strong partnership for the fifth wicket.
India right on top as Kiwis lose half the side
The Black Caps after winning the toss elected to bat first and Rachin Ravindra tore apart the Indian bowling with some breath-taking batting. He had the boundary floodgates opened before Kuldeep Yadav's magical ball dismantled him as well.
Once Ravindra was back in the hut, the run-rate slowed down and the Kiwi batters fell into the Indian spin trap as they have lost half the side for 173 runs.
