In a significant development, Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced the signings of Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson, and Charith Asalanka as replacements for Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Corbin Bosch respectively on Tuesday May 20, 2025. The outgoing trio is set to leave for national duties after MI’s final league stage ðfixture.
MI Names Star Replacements As 3 Players Depart For National Duty
England’s explosive wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow will step in for Will Jacks and has been signed at a price of ₹5.25 crore. Bairstow is expected to add depth and firepower to MI’s batting lineup during the playoffs, should the team qualify.
English pacer Richard Gleeson has been brought in at a reserve price of ₹1 crore. Gleeson, known for his pace and variations, brings experience and depthness to the bowling attack. Sri Lankan middle-order batter Charith Asalanka will replace Corbin Bosch and joins the MI squad at a reserve price of ₹75 lakh.
It is important to note that all three replacement players will be available only from the Playoffs stage onwards, contingent on MI securing a spot in the final four.
How Can MI Qualify For IPL 2025 Playoffs?
Five-time champions MI will be looking to secure their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs when they face DC at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. With just two matches remaining in the league stage, the match has assumed the intensity of a virtual knockout.
MI currently sit fourth on the IPL points table with 14 points from 12 matches. A win against Delhi would take them to 16 points, confirming their qualification for the playoffs. In doing so, they would join GT, RCB , and PBKS. The equation is straightforward for Mumbai: win and proceed.
