The IPL 2026 could be a major transformative edition of the tournament. After the 2025 season, all the team are looking pro-active to build the perfect set-up for the next season. The fans are coming across new developments almost everyday. From changes in coaching positions, to trade rumours of major players, to possible big releases, rumours are buzzing in the air. In this article, we take a look at the major changes that have already taken place for different teams and some major rumours that might be realised soon.
Confirmed Coaching Changes
Kolkata Knight Riders: The IPL 2024 champions are undergoing a complete overhaul, particularly in their coaching staff. They have parted ways with Chandrakant Pandit and bowling coach Bharat Arun after the team finished 8th in IPL 2025. Abhishek Nayar has also been re-appointed as the assistanct coach for the next season.
Lucknow Super Giants: The Super Giants appointed the bowling coach whom KKR sacked, i.e., Bharat Arun. Notably, Zaheer Khan had previously played the role. Additionally, Carl Crowe will be joining the team as a spin consultant.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: The runners up from IPL 2024 has appointed former Indian pacer, Varun Aaron as their bowling coach, replacing James Franklin. Daniel Vettori continues as the head coach; however, there are rumours that the ex-Kiwi spinner may also lose his job.
Rajasthan Royals: The inaugural IPL champions have faced the latest major shake-up in the coaching staff. Rahul Dravid has stepped down as the head coach after playing the role for a lone season.
Player Retirement
A veteran of the Chennai Super Kings, Ravichandran Ashwin has retired from all forms of cricket in India. Notably, this decision from the off-spinner came after CSK scripted his home-coming to the franchise during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Captaincy Changes And Rumours
Recent reports clainn that Axar Patel might be sacked from the post of captain of DC. Chances are high that KL Rahul or Faf du Plessis might be handed over the reins.
After having a poor season in IPL 2025, there are rumours that the Kolkata Knight Riders might sack Ajinkya Rahane as the captain of the team.
Major Trade Rumours
There have been reports that Sanju Samson has formally requested RR to release him or trade him ahead of the next season. CSK and KKR showed interest in a trade move but the demands of the Royals made them withdraw the offers. His IPL 2026 team is yet to be determined.
KL Rahul is reportedly being pursued by KKR for a potential trade from Delhi Capitals, with KKR considering him for captaincy and wicketkeeping duties. However, DC officials have dismissed these speculations.
Washington Sundar is at the centre of trade talks, with CSK rumoured to be sending Devon Conway to the Gujarat Titans in exchange for Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, and cash.
Majos Release Rumours
Punjab Kings are considering releasing two expensive stars: Yuzvendra Chahal (₹18 crore) after taking just 16 wickets at an economy of 9.56, and Glenn Maxwell (₹4.2 crore) who managed only 48 runs in 7 matches.
Sunrisers Hyderabad may release Mohammed Shami (₹10 crore) after his poor return of 6 wickets in 9 matches with an economy rate of 11.23. Shami himself hinted at a potential move to LSG.
