Melbourne Stars Women add 3 exciting names to their list

On June 21 (Tuesday), the Melbourne Stars made some important announcements regarding their roster for the 2022/23 edition of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL).

Sophie Reid, who secured the Victorian Women's contract list for 2022-23, has also been rewarded with her first WBBL 2022/23 contract by the franchise.

After the announcement, Reid explained that she could learn a lot from players like Meg Lanning and Annabel Sutherland and improve her game.

"I can't wait for the WBBL this year, and I hope that I can continue to improve my game in the coming months. To work with and learn from players like Meg Lanning and Annabel Sutherland will be an amazing experience."

In another major update, Rhys McKenna, Sophie Reid, and Lucy Cripps were retained by Stars for the upcoming season.

17-year-old McKenna is the youngest of the lot, and she has picked up three wickets in eight matches since her debut in the WBBL season last year. On her debut, she picked up the important wicket of Ellyse Perry. Furthermore, she scalped six wickets in four matches of the Women's National Cricket League 2022.

Cripps has not featured in any of the games so far and is hoping to make a comeback after recovering from a stress fracture of her back.

Reid has been a regular fixture in the Stars' line-up for the past two editions of WBBL and has scalped a total of 15 wickets.

Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch is excited to see the progress of these players under the leadership of Lanning and coach Jonathan Batty.

"We are committed to the development of the best young female talent in Victoria, and it's great to see Sophie, Lucy and Rhys re-commit to the Stars, and we look forward to welcoming Sophie Reid to the Stars Family as well," said Crouch.

"Under the leadership of Meg Lanning and new coach Jonathan Batty, I can't wait to see their development over the course of WBBL|08".

Last season, the Stars managed to secure just five wins from 14 league matches and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Stars' Current WBBL|08 squad: Meg Lanning, Lucy Cripps, Sophie Day, Nicole Faltum, Tess Flintoff, Kim Garth, Rhys McKenna, Sasha Moloney, Sophie Reid, Annabel Sutherland..
