SL-W vs IND-W | Harmanpreet Kaur to become all-time leading run-scorer in T20Is

Harmanpreet Kaur is set to overtake the recently-retired Mithali Raj as the all-time leading run-scorer for the Indian T20I women’s team. The 33-year-old has compiled 2,319 runs across 121 T20I matches and is just 45 runs behind the former Indian captain.

Kaur has scored runs at an average of 26.35, all while maintaining a 103.08 strike rate. She has six half-centuries and a ton under her belt in T20Is.

Kaur to lead India in three T20Is in Sri Lanka

The Punjab-born cricketer is all set to lead the Indian women’s team on their ongoing limited-overs trip to Sri Lanka. The ‘Women in Blue’ will start the tour with three T20Is in Dambulla and will then shift to Kandy for the ODI segment.

The tour presents a remarkable opportunity for Harmanpreet to topple her former skipper and become the all-time leading scorer in T20Is among Indian women. Notably, Kaur is one of only four Indian cricketers to feature in the 2,000-run club in the truncated format of the game.

Active men’s skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the other members of the exclusive club, with both having amassed over 3,000 runs.

The three-match T20I series against hosts Sri Lanka will begin on June 23, and the subsequent fixtures will be played on June 25 and June 27. All matches will be played at Dambulla’s Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

The veteran batter made her international debut back in 2009 as a 20-year-old. So far, she has represented the national side in three Tests, 118 ODIs and 121 T20Is.

Having compiled 5,339 runs across all international formats, she has also claimed 68 wickets with her right-arm off-break bowling.

As captain, Kaur led the Indian women’s team to a runners-up campaign at the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia, having lost to the hosts in the final.
