Melbourne Stars has extended the BBL contract of seasoned all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, even though the latter recently returned with underwhelming numbers from BBL 2023-24 season. The cricketer first joined the franchise back during the 2013-14 season and has remained one of their most integral forces since then.

As per his latest contract extension, the all-round maverick is set to remain a Melbourne Stars member at least until the conclusion of the 2026-27 edition of the annual Australian T20 extravaganza.

Marcus Stoinis to continue with Melbourne Stars

On January 29, Melbourne Stars announced the re-signing of star-attraction and belligerent all-rounder Marcus Stoinis for three additional seasons.

Blair Crouch, General Manager of the Melbourne Stars, expressed his excitement over Stoinis’ extension and described the cricketer as one of the most experienced T20 all-rounders from Australia since the last 10 years.

"Marcus (Stoinis) is obviously one of the most experienced and well performed T20 players in Australia over the last decade and for him to commit for another three seasons is a great demonstration of the faith he has in where we are headed. He is one of the most in-demand T20 players in the world and as we saw on New Year's Eve again this year, when he was at his destructive best, he is one of very few players who can win a match off his own bat."

In the recently-concluded BBL 2023-24 season, Marcus Stoinis managed to tally just 169 runs with the bat at a substandard average of 24.14 after nine innings. Even with the ball in hand, the speedster picked up just a solitary wicket throughout the tournament and conceded a dreadful bowling average of 141.

His lackluster returns as an all-rounder turned out to be one of the decisive factors for Melbourne Stars listless run throughout the competition, as they finished their BBL 2023-24 run at number six on the points table.

Marcus Stoinis is currently plying his trade for the Durban's Super Giants franchise in South Africa for the ongoing SA20 2024 season. The 34-year-old will soon be reprising his role for Australia through their forthcoming home T20I series against the West Indies.
