Meg Lanning dethrones Beth Mooney to claim top spot in ICC Women’s T20I batting rankings

Australian women’s captain Meg Lanning has dethroned her teammate Beth Mooney to become the number one ranked T20I batter. As per the latest ICC rankings, Mooney and Lanning swapped places following the latter’s exploits in the recently-concluded Ireland tri-series.

The Australian captain piled up 113 runs in the two innings she played against hosts Ireland. In one of the games, she charted a match-winning 74 at the Bready Cricket Club Ground.

The tri-series, also featuring Pakistan, saw several of the matches being called-off due to constant rains at the Magheramason venue. However, Lanning’s batting dominance ensured her side won the competition and enhanced their preparations ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in England.

Apart from the two Australians holding the top two spots, wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy also finds a place in the top 10 batting rankings. She is ranked at number seven with 654 rating points, just two points clear of Antipodean rival Suzie Bates at number eight.

Dynamic batters Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are the only Indian representatives on the latest top 10 rankings. The duo are placed at number four and five respectively.
