IND vs WI | 3rd ODI | Arshdeep Singh, the next big thing for India

India are playing West Indies in a three-match ODI series. The Men in Blue have pocketed the series after winning the first two matches. The team management can thus look to make a few changes for the final match of the series.

As a follower of the sport, I feel that India should definitely give the 23-year-old left-arm medium pacer, Arshdeep Singh a chance in the third and final ODI. The young man has impressed everybody with his exploits in the death overs during IPL 2022.

Is Arshdeep worth the hype?

Often players have vanished after a wonderful season in the IPL. But from the early glimpses, Arshdeep is clearly learning from his experiences and getting better in his trade. A comparison of his figures in the death overs of the last two IPL seasons will give us a clear idea.

So, the table shows that Arshdeep has improved his economy in IPL 2022. One more thing that is visible is that his team used him more in the death overs this time around as compared to IPL 2021. Arshdeep did not disappoint his team as his economy improved by about two runs per over.

The fact that he picked up fewer wickets, but with a better economy is evidence that batters have tried to play him out in the latest edition of IPL instead of attacking him. If we compare his economy with the best in the business for IPL 2022, we will get a better idea of how good Arshdeep was.

Arshdeep has the second-best economy on the list. The fact that he was better than some of the best in the world speaks volumes about his ability.

The road ahead for Arshdeep

India should definitely play Arshdeep in the upcoming matches as much as possible. This will give the young bowler a chance to hone his skills under pressure.

It is also known that world-class players are made when they perform in adverse situations. Playing Arshdeep in the last ODI match and then the T20I series will prepare him for bigger challenges.

If Arshdeep can translate his IPL performances to the international stage, India will benefit from the presence of a well-groomed death-over bowler in their arsenal.
