In a massive setback for New Zealand, ace speedster Matt Henry has been ruled out of the 2023 World Cup due to a hamstring injury. New Zealand have added promising pacer Kyle Jamieson to their squad as Henry's replacement.

Notably, Henry sustained a hamstring injury during New Zealand’s seventh league-stage match against South Africa in Pune. He could bowl only 5.3 overs in the match, as the BlackCaps had to use all-rounder Jimmy Neesham to complete his quota.

After walking off the field, Henry didn’t come out to bowl against the Proteas. He went for scans, which revealed a grade two hamstring tear, which will require at least two to four weeks to recover from.

As a result, the New Zealand think tank had earlier roped in Jamieson as a cover and now the bowling all-rounder has replaced Henry in the main squad.

Henry had an outstanding time with the ball in New Zealand’s first four games, scalping nine wickets at an impressive strike rate. However, his performance dipped from the India game, after which he managed to pick only three wickets in 25.5 overs.

Although the Kiwis have added Jamieson to their squad, Lockie Ferguson seems to be the frontrunner to replace Henry in their playing XI for the crucial clash against Pakistan in Bengaluru on Saturday.
