In a display of magnificent pace bowling that left the world in awe, the Indian pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami — engineered a historic collapse of the Sri Lankan batting lineup, propelling India to an emphatic 302-run victory in their World Cup 2023 encounter on Thursday, November 2, in Mumbai.

Amir applauds India's pace phenoms, quips at Pakistan's bowling woes

The Sri Lankan team was skittled for a paltry 55 runs, marking the lowest World Cup total by a Test-playing nation. The match, which unfolded at the Wankhede Stadium, saw India's fast bowlers dominate the proceedings from the outset.

Jasprit Bumrah etched his name into the record books by claiming a wicket off the very first delivery, a feat that no other Indian has achieved in the history of World Cup matches.

The pacer's opening salvo was complemented by Mohammed Siraj's fiery spell that dismantled the top order of the Sri Lankan team, leaving them languishing at 3/4 early in their chase of India's imposing total of 358.

Adding to the demolition was Mohammed Shami, who returned to deliver a performance for the ages. He nearly completed a hat-trick, ending with the staggering figures of 5 for 18 from five overs.

The stunning display of seam and swing bowling garnered accolades from across the cricketing fraternity, including from Pakistan's own Mohammad Amir. The former Pakistani speedster took to social media in a moment of admiration and congenial ribbing, praising the Indian pacers while simultaneously taking a jibe at Pakistan's bowling efforts in the tournament.

“worldclass bowling display from Indian bowlers.this is called world class bowling . #IndiavsSriLanka,” wrote Amir.

Amir's comments arrive amid introspection within the Pakistan camp, sparked by Hasan Ali's recent reflections on the expectations surrounding the 'Men in Green's' bowling arsenal. Ali had stated that it was not the team that gave itself the title of the 'best bowling attack in the world' but the people.

Meanwhile, the gravity of the situation is not lost on the Pakistan team. As they aim for a spot in the semi-finals with an inconsistent record of three wins in seven matches, India has already punched their ticket to the next round with a perfect streak of seven victories.

However, they can take confidence from Shaheen Afridi's return to form and Mohammad Wasim Jr's emergence as a potent force.
