Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a magnificent start to their IPL 2025 campaign, as they defeated arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) in their first match of the season. After restricting MI to 155, the Super Kings chased down the target in 19.1 overs, opening their account on the points table.

Pathirana Injured; To Be Ruled Out Of IPL 2025?

Although CSK kickstarted their IPL 2025 campaign with a clinical win, the absence of ace speedster Matheesha Pathirana raised many eyebrows. The franchise didn't release a statement regarding the Sri Lankan pacer's non-participation, leaving their fans puzzled.

Meanwhile, a CSK insider has revealed that Pathirana was sidelined from the crucial clash against MI due to injury. During a discussion with legendary Indian opener and BCCI's former chairman of selectors Kris Srikkanth, the insider quoted a source, revealing that Pathirana could even be ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

He claimed that Pathirana apparently sustained the injury due to his remodelled bowling action. However, he also stated that nothing could be concluded with absolute certainty until the franchise broke silence on the matter.

What Options CSK Have If Pathirana Gets Ruled Out?

In Pathirana's absence, Chennai Super Kings included Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis in their playing XI for the season opener against Mumbai Indians. If the fast bowler gets sidelined for the entire tournament, the five-time champions will pick one of the unsold players as his replacement in due course.
