The highly-anticipated IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may face an unexpected hurdle from the weather gods on May 3. CSK’s practice session at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was cut short on Friday as rainfall forced players to rush off the field mid-session.

CSK Players Rush Off Ground Mid-Practice

In a video posted on CSK’s official social media handles, Dewald Brevis and Ravichandran Ashwin were seen making final preparations on a rain-dampened outfield. However, as the rain intensified, the players had no option but to abandon their practice.  On Friday, RCB had to cancel their own net session due to wet conditions.

Can CSK Still Qualify?

CSK’s campaign in IPL 2025 has been underwhelming, with just two wins from ten matches, and they have already been officially knocked out of playoff contention.

Their most recent defeat came at the hands of Punjab Kings, ending any mathematical hope of advancing to the next stage. With four matches remaining, MS Dhoni’s side will now play for pride and potentially test out younger talent in preparation for the 2026 season.

Meanwhile, the match holds high significance for RCB, who have been in excellent form. Rajat Patidar’s team sits third on the points table with seven wins and three losses from ten games.

A victory against CSK would potentially lift them to the top of the table. With three wins on the trot, momentum is clearly on RCB’s side but having said all this will weather play a spoilsport in RCB vs CSK match?

Bengaluru Weather: IMD Issues 'Yellow Alert'

According to Accuweather.com and the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain and thunderstorms are expected during the evening hours, precisely when the match is scheduled to begin.

A ‘yellow alert’ remains in effect for Bengaluru till May 7, as intermittent showers continue to lash parts of the city.

The temperature on match day is expected to hover around 33°C, with cloudy skies and a high likelihood of afternoon thunderstorms. The IMD has warned of continued rainfall activity in the region, including potential precipitation during match hours, putting the game at risk of delays or even a washout.
