As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season approaches, all eyes are on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and their captain KL Rahul. With the team's recent appointment of Justin Langer as head coach, expectations are high for LSG to chase their first IPL title.

Langer, the former Australian cricketer, has voiced strong support for Rahul, suggesting that leading LSG to victory could significantly boost his chances of securing a spot in India's squad for the T20 World Cup later this year.

KL Rahul, who is currently on the mend from a quadriceps injury, may not take up wicket-keeping duties at the beginning of the IPL. However, his role as captain remains pivotal.

According to Langer, "If KL can captain LSG to the IPL title, that means he would have captained well, batted well, and kept wickets well."

This comprehensive performance is what Langer believes could make a compelling case for Rahul's inclusion in the national team, especially since he hasn't played a T20I international since the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Langer's strategy emphasizes performance at the franchise level as a stepping stone to national selection. This approach also applies to other players like Ravi Bishnoi, who are eyeing a spot in the T20 World Cup squad.

"The message for players like KL and Bishi (Bishnoi) would be that the more they concentrate on doing well for LSG, their chances (of T20 World Cup) will increase," Langer stated.

The Lucknow Super Giants are set to kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against the Rajasthan Royals on March 24. Rahul, who has a commendable IPL record with 4163 runs from 118 matches, joined the LSG camp on March 20.

Under his leadership, the team hopes to surpass their previous eliminator round exits and aim for the title.

With the T20 World Cup 2024 starting on June 2, performances in the IPL will be closely watched by selectors. As LSG and KL Rahul gear up for the season, the pathway to international cricket's grand stage could well be paved with runs, wickets, and catches in the IPL.
