Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ravaged CSK by six wickets in match number 39 of the IPL 2024 season. The outcome marked LSG’s second win over the defending champions within a week, thus marking a rare occasion in IPL history.

CSK, having emerged as perennial contenders, rarely loses twice to a team in the league stage of the same IPL edition. Off the back of LSG’s twin success in IPL 2024, here is a look back at the list of teams to have defeated the ‘Yellow Brigade’ more than once in the league stage of a single IPL season.

Teams to defeat CSK twice in IPL league stage

Chennai Super Kings have lost to a team twice in the league stage of an IPL season on 14 occasions since the inception of the tournament. Teams like Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals have achieved the feat thrice each in IPL; while Delhi Capitals have attained a significant height twice in their careers.

Despite commencing their IPL journey through the tournament’s 2022 chapter, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants have also managed to secure wins over CSK in both their league stage meetings of a season at least once, in IPL 2022 and IPL 2024 respectively.

The now-defunct Deccan Chargers franchise, meanwhile, defeated CSK on both instances of their league stage bout back in 2010.

CSK’s latest defeat to LSG made them slip to the number five position on the IPL 2024 points table. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led ‘Yellow Brigade’ will now go up against an all-firing SRH squadron in match number 46 of the IPL 2024 season on April 28 in Chennai.
