The Lanka Premier League after its 18 days and 23 matches of enthralling cricket has now reached its climax with one summit clash to decide the champions of the second season of the premier T20 tournament of Sri Lanka. Incidentally, the final of this season will also be contested between the same teams which contested the final last season.

The teams from Galle and Jaffna would be once again pitched up against each other for the final honours. In the playoffs, while Galle beat Jaffna in Qualifier 1 to get directly to the fina, the team from North Sri Lanka had to get past Dmabulla Giants in the second qualifier to make its place in the final after losing the first qualifier.

As has been seen throughout the Playoffs, the pitches at the stadium have been true especially in the last game, the ball was coming onto the bat very nicely. So it is expected to remain true and help in getting a high scoring finale.

New Zealand leave out Ajaz Patel for Bangladesh Tests after record-breaking spell vs India

It was shocking to see that Ajaz Patel was named in the 13 man squad of New Zealand named for the two-match series at home against a touring Bangladesh side. The team has however retained Rachin Ravindra as a spin-bowling all-rounder in the side but there is no specialist spinner. Along with Patel, Kane Williamson will also not be available for the series and in his absence, Tom Latham would lead the side. “It’s obviously disappointing not to have Kane available for this series but, as we noted in India, he is undergoing a sustained period of rest followed by rehabilitation, strengthening and gradual batting loading,” Gary Stead, the New Zealand coach said in a statement released by the New Zealand Cricket. Talking about Ajaz Patel’s removal from the squad, the coach said. “You do feel for Ajaz after his record-breaking display in India. However, we’ve always applied a horses-for-courses selection policy and believe the players selected best fit the way we want to take on Bangladesh here at home.” “We feel having both Rachin and Daryl in the squad gives us a nice balance and the ability to pick a side best suited to the conditions we expect,” he further added. New Zealand play two Tests against Bangladesh with the first one starting on January 01 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. New Zealand Test Squad Tom Latham (c) - Canterbury, Tom Blundell (wk) - Wellington Firebirds, Trent Boult - Northern Districts, Devon Conway - Wellington Firebirds, Matt Henry - Canterbury, Kyle Jamieson - Auckland Aces, Daryl Mitchell - Canterbury, Henry Nicholls - Canterbury, Rachin Ravindra - Wellington Firebirds, Tim Southee - Northern Districts, Ross Taylor - Central Stags, Neil Wagner - Northern Districts, Will Young - Central Stags

Watch: Pakistan batsman Abid Ali seeks prayers of fans and well-wishers from his hospital bed

Pakistan Test opener Abid Ali was rushed to the hospital during an ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy game in Karachi. He was batting and had crossed the fifty run mark for his domestic side Central Punjab against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last round of the premier First-Class tournament of the South Asian nation when he suddenly complained of pain in the chest and had to be rushed to an emergency facility. The cricketer as per Pakistan Cricket Board was diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome or ACS and underwent various medical procedures. In a statement, PCB said, “Abid is under the care of Consultant Cardiologist who is liaising with PCB medical team regarding further treatment. He is currently stable." After recovering well, Abid himself released a video from his hospital bed. In the video, the 33-year-old said, “Greetings to all, with the blessings of the almighty I am recovering well. I ask for more prayers, which you have already bestowed upon me, but I ask for more as I have a small medical procedure to undergo tomorrow as well. Hopefully the almighty would help me get through that as well. “I would once again request my fans, my family, media and all my well-wishers to pray for my swift recovery,” he added further. The right-hander, who is the fifth leading run-scorer in Tests this year was awarded Player of the Series against Bangladesh in the two-match Test series just recently. In that series, he scored 263 runs at 87.66. Abid, who made his Test debut in 2019 is also the only player in history to reach three figures on both Test and ODI debuts.
