Northern Knights vs Canterbury Kings | 11th Match Preview, Predictions, Fantasy XI

Northern Knights and Canterbury Kings face off against each other in the 11th Match of the Super Smash competition at the Bay Oval ground, Mount Maunganui. Currently, the Knights are placed at the second spot with 10 points from four games, and the Kings are poised just below them at the third spot with 8 points from three matches.

In their previous matches both the teams won chasing the target quite comfortably and will try to do the same at the Bay Oval. The Knights stifled the in-form Auckland Aces by 6 wickets with 29 balls to spare. Earlier in the game, the Aces were bundled out for just 92 runs. Anurag Verma and Frederick Walker were in good nick as they ended up picking three wickets apiece. Tim Seifert anchored the chase, continuing his purple patch.

Hence, the Knights will have the upper hand with their key players performing well thus far in the tournament. Trent Boult and Scott Kuggeleijn were given rest in their previous match against the Aces, and the dynamic duo will be eager to play this game if the opportunity arises.

The Kings, on the other hand, defeated Wellington by six wickets last Sunday. The Kings restricted the Wellington-based side to 151/9 in their allotted 20 overs. For Canterbury, Matt Henry and Ed Nuttall took three wickets each.

It was their second win of the season, courtesy to Chad Bowes and Cam Fletcher's brilliant fifties, which helped them win with 21 balls to spare. With different players contributing to their team in different matches, they will be confident going into this match. Their line-up is looking even more dangerous now with Henry Nicholls’ return from the national duties.

Both the teams are in good shape and will have selection headaches with their international stars back in the squad. All in all, it should be a crackerjack of a contest.

IPL 2022 Auctions to be held in Bengaluru on February 07 & 08: Reports

The Indian Premier League 2022 Auctions would be held in Bengaluru on February 07 and 08, if reports are to be believed. There were earlier rumours that given the rise in cases of Covid-19 in India and the Omicron variant of the virus spreading quickly, the Auctions would be shifted to UAE. “Unless the COVID-19 situation worsens, we will have the IPL mega auction in India. The two-day event will be held on February 7 and 8 and like other years, we plan to hold it in Bengaluru. Preparations are underway,” PTI quoted a senior BCCI official on conditions of anonymity. It is also being said that this might be the last mega auction happening in the cash-rich league as the owners of the original eight franchises believe that for club culture to develop teams must be allowed the trade and retention system instead of having mega auctions every year. In fact, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal said that it is sad and painful to lose players because you can retain only four players after having a big pull of 20-25 players travelling with you for a period of three years. “It is very sad to lose Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada and Ashwin. The auction process itself is something like this. Going forward, IPL should look at this because it’s not that you build a team, give chances to young players, groom them and get them opportunities from franchises, play for the country and then you lose them after three years,” Jindal had said.

SJN Impact | SA Test skipper Dean Elgar wants coaches and administrators to get a long rope

South Africa Test captain Dean Elgar feels that coaches and administrators in the camp are not getting the desired love and respect which they duly deserved. Elgar was speaking on the outcomes of the Social Justice and Nation-Building (SJN) commission’s report which called the behaviour of current South Africa’s Director of Cricket Graeme Smith and head coach Mark Boucher as prejudicial and discriminatory against players of colour. It also mentioned former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers. "We've had so many different administrators that we don't even know who's there now. I think maybe backing has been something that's been pretty tough, especially backing with regards to our coaches and our team management. I don't think we've received a lot of good stuff around that,” said the Test skipper in a pre-series presser before the Test series against India starting with the Boxing Day Test in Centurion. Elgar further went on to say that from a players' point of view, he and other players would have to publicly say that they back their coaches and management and give them a lot of love. “I know what they do behind the scenes, and for me, that speaks volumes when it comes to our environment. One of the biggest things is that we haven't had a lot of stability from an administrative point of view, and hopefully sooner than later there's a lot more stability that comes within Cricket South Africa. It's not nice to see our coaches get lambasted for things, and I know the work they're putting in behind the scenes, which no one else sees. Only us as the players' group - we notice that and we see that and we're extremely grateful for the hard work that they put in,” he further added.

USA vs IRE | Jaskaran Malhotra alongside two others ruled out of T20I series

The United States received a big jolt ahead of their historic series against Ireland as their leading players including vice-captain Aaron Jones, Jaskaran Malhotra and Karima Gore were ruled out of the two-match T20I series starting December 22 in Lauderhill, Florida. While Steven Taylor has yet not been ruled out of the T20I series, but him having tested positive alongside the above mentioned three does not augur well for the US team. There is yet another problem as fast bowler Rusty Theron whom the team was counting on has also not recovered from his elbow injury that he picked up during the US Open T20, the domestic tournament held in Florida just recently. To cover for these rule outs, three USA U-19 players in left-arm spinner Ali Sheikh, legspinner Yasir Mohammad and right-hand batter Ritwik Behera have been called into the squad after passing Covid testing in their respective home cities to clear their availability. The three players who tested positive for Covid have yet not been ruled out for the three-match ODI series and it is being hoped that they would play a crucial part for the USA in the ODI series. Even Ireland had four Covid cases among its players to the start of the series as Harry Tector, Gareth Delany, Barry McCarthy and George Dockrell had tested positive for the virus. However, McCarthy completed his 10-day isolation period and took part in Ireland's training on Monday. USA T20I squad: Monank Patel (capt), Ali Khan, Ali Sheikh, Gajanand Singh, Jessy Singh, Marty Kain, Nisarg Patel, Ritwik Behera, Ryan Scott, Saurabh Netravalkar, Steven Taylor, Sushant Modani, Vatsal Vaghela, Xavier Marshall, Yasir Mohammad.
