IPL 2022 Auctions to be held in Bengaluru on February 07 & 08: Reports

The Indian Premier League 2022 Auctions would be held in Bengaluru on February 07 and 08, if reports are to be believed. There were earlier rumours that given the rise in cases of Covid-19 in India and the Omicron variant of the virus spreading quickly, the Auctions would be shifted to UAE.

“Unless the COVID-19 situation worsens, we will have the IPL mega auction in India. The two-day event will be held on February 7 and 8 and like other years, we plan to hold it in Bengaluru. Preparations are underway,” PTI quoted a senior BCCI official on conditions of anonymity.

It is also being said that this might be the last mega auction happening in the cash-rich league as the owners of the original eight franchises believe that for club culture to develop teams must be allowed the trade and retention system instead of having mega auctions every year.

In fact, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal said that it is sad and painful to lose players because you can retain only four players after having a big pull of 20-25 players travelling with you for a period of three years.

“It is very sad to lose Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada and Ashwin. The auction process itself is something like this. Going forward, IPL should look at this because it’s not that you build a team, give chances to young players, groom them and get them opportunities from franchises, play for the country and then you lose them after three years,” Jindal had said.

South Africa Test captain Dean Elgar feels that coaches and administrators in the camp are not getting the desired love and respect which they duly deserved. Elgar was speaking on the outcomes of the Social Justice and Nation-Building (SJN) commission’s report which called the behaviour of current South Africa’s Director of Cricket Graeme Smith and head coach Mark Boucher as prejudicial and discriminatory against players of colour. It also mentioned former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers. "We've had so many different administrators that we don't even know who's there now. I think maybe backing has been something that's been pretty tough, especially backing with regards to our coaches and our team management. I don't think we've received a lot of good stuff around that,” said the Test skipper in a pre-series presser before the Test series against India starting with the Boxing Day Test in Centurion. Elgar further went on to say that from a players' point of view, he and other players would have to publicly say that they back their coaches and management and give them a lot of love. “I know what they do behind the scenes, and for me, that speaks volumes when it comes to our environment. One of the biggest things is that we haven't had a lot of stability from an administrative point of view, and hopefully sooner than later there's a lot more stability that comes within Cricket South Africa. It's not nice to see our coaches get lambasted for things, and I know the work they're putting in behind the scenes, which no one else sees. Only us as the players' group - we notice that and we see that and we're extremely grateful for the hard work that they put in,” he further added.

Vijay Dahiya roped in as assistant coach by Lucknow franchise

Former wicket-keeper batsman Vijay Dahiya will be a part of the Lucknow franchise in the Indian Premier League as the assistant coach. "I am delighted and grateful for the opportunity given to me to work with the Lucknow IPL franchise," Dahiya said in a statement. Dahiya is presently working as the coach of the UP team while has worked as an assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders franchise. The KKR have been crowned champions of the IPL twice. The Lucknow franchise which is owned by RPSG Group had earlier appointed Andy Flower as head coach and Gautam Gambhir as the mentor. "I am incredibly excited to be joining the new Lucknow franchise and I am very grateful for the opportunity. Since my very first tour to India in 1993, I have always loved touring, playing and coaching in India," Flower had said earlier in a statement. "I will relish the challenge to build something meaningful and successful with the Lucknow franchise, I am looking forward to meeting the management and staff when I visit Uttar Pradesh in the new year,” he added.

USA vs IRE | Jaskaran Malhotra alongside two others ruled out of T20I series

The United States received a big jolt ahead of their historic series against Ireland as their leading players including vice-captain Aaron Jones, Jaskaran Malhotra and Karima Gore were ruled out of the two-match T20I series starting December 22 in Lauderhill, Florida. The three players who tested positive for Covid have yet not been ruled out for the three-match ODI series and it is being hoped that they would play a crucial part for the USA in the ODI series. Even Ireland had four Covid cases among its players to the start of the series as Harry Tector, Gareth Delany, Barry McCarthy and George Dockrell had tested positive for the virus. However, McCarthy completed his 10-day isolation period and took part in Ireland's training on Monday. BBL 2021-22: Perth Scorchers continue form after Mitchell Marsh unleashes brilliant all-round show

Perth Scorchers continued their brilliant run in the on-going Big bash League with another win in the tournament on Wednesday in Melbourne. The Scorchers defeated Melbourne Renegades by 21 runs. Batting first, the Perth Scorchers side rode on an aggressive batting from Mitchell Marsh who struck a 53-ball 86 which included five maximums and as many fours to post 206/5 in 20 overs. Apart from him, Laurie Evans also chipped in with a brisk and unbeaten 42 off 16. Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers for the Renegades after he returned with figures of 3/33 in 4 overs. In reply, the Melbourne team lost an early wicket but Aaron Finch and Nic Maddinson stitched a 130-run partnership before Maddinson departed for 67 off 41. Finch followed him soon after scoring 68 off 43. The Renegades lost the plot after Finch’s departure and failed to get back on track to eventually end the innings at 185/5 in 20 overs. Mitchell Marsh picked up one wicket for the side for 20 runs in 3 overs. Marsh who was later adjudged player of the match admitted that the track had much on offer for the batters. “Great win. Was a good test for us. Great hitting from Finchy and Maddinson. Was a beautiful batting surface. We felt 180 was par, so glad to take 200 because they batted well. I've been just sticking to the process and doing the basics. I'm enjoying myself a lot. It (Maddinson's wicket) was really pleasing, if I didn't then it was probably game over for us,” he said after the game.
