Lowest Test Average By A PAK Batter In Australia? Babar Azam Sets 'Shameful' Record

Babar Azam's 2024 starts on a sombre note, reflecting the underwhelming end to his 2023. The former Pakistan captain's lacklustre performance against Australia finally came to an end with a modest score of 23 as the visitors suffered a 8-wicket defeat in the Sydney Test.

After falling to an in-dipper from Pat Cummins for 26 in the first innings, Babar suffered another LBW dismissal at the hands of the Australian captain. Babar Azam finished his second Test series in Australia with just 126 runs from six innings, with an average of 21 and a top score of 41 at MCG.

Adding to the dismay, Babar Azam now holds the least favourable record among Pakistan's batters touring Australia for Test series, securing the lowest average among those who managed a minimum of 200 runs in the longest format of the game.

This also marks Babar Azam's third-lowest aggregate in a three-Test series, echoing his previous struggle during the 2016-17 Australia tour where he managed to score only 68 runs.

Notably, Babar Azam has experienced a dip in form since the Asia Cup 2023 and had a disappointing run in the 2023 World Cup held in India. Following this prestigious tournament, he also relinquished the captaincy for all formats in the Pakistan team.

Despite expectations that stepping down from the captaincy in all formats would free up Babar Azam to play with greater freedom, his performance has fallen short, and he has struggled to make an impact, looking notably poor.
