In a significant development, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have won the toss and opted to bowl first in their second group-stage match of the IPL 2025 against Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG). At toss, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer revealed that his side would bowl first in order to capitalise on the playing conditions.
PBKS Replace Omarzai With Lockie Ferguson
Punjab Kings have made a bold change in their playing XI, replacing Azmatullah Omarzai with ace New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson. This seems a tactical change, as they had a single death bowler in Arshdeep Singh in the last game against Gujarat Titans.
Led by Iyer, PBKS had a solid start to their IPL 2025 campaign, securing an emphatic win over the Titans in their first away game of the season. However, their bowling unit had too many new-ball operators, which is probably why they have preferred Ferguson's extra pace for this match.

(Ferguson's IPL stats)
Renowned for his ability to operate at sheer pace and nail accurate yorkers, Lockie Ferguson has been a familiar face in the IPL. He has represented four teams- GT, KKR, RPS and RCB in his eight-year-long IPL career.
In 45 IPL innings, Ferguson has bagged 46 wickets at an average of 31 and a strike rate of 20.76, with his economy rate reading 8.96. Although these aren't extraordinary numbers, Ferguson's exemplary record against LSG's swashbuckling batter Nicholas Pooran might've prompted PBKS to include him in their team for this match.
Ferguson has bagged Pooran's wicket four times in 20 deliveries, making this battle worth-watching in this high-voltage affair.
