Australia skipper Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the upcoming white-ball series against India, extending his recovery period from a lingering back injury. Cricket Australia officially confirmed that Cummins will miss the three-match ODI series and the five T20Is against the Men in Blue as he continues his rehabilitation.

The pacer, who has been managing his fitness carefully since July, was last seen in Test action against the West Indies earlier this summer. His final white-ball appearance came in November 2024 against Pakistan before the injury sidelined him.

Pat Cummins Extends NZ Tour Rest

While Cummins' setback is a concern, Cricket Australia clarified that Cummins is not suffering from a stress fracture, but the medical staff are closely monitoring his progress to ensure he makes a full recovery.

The statement released stressed on the fact that Cummins will not be considered for the limited-overs series against India. He remains on a carefully managed program with the aim of being fully fit for the Ashes.

Cummins’ absence is a blow to Australia’s preparations, with the skipper playing a key role across formats. His leadership and ability to lead the pace attack will be missed as Australia take on a strong Indian side on home soil from October 19. With Pat Cummins sidelined, selectors will be looking at rotation options within the bowling unit to fill the gap.

Cummins' Race Against Time

Notably, the injury has placed Pat Cummins in a race against time to regain match fitness ahead of the Ashes, which gets underway in November.

As one of Australia’s premier fast bowlers, his return will be critical to the team’s chances of regaining the urn. For now, the focus remains on his rehabilitation program and ensuring he is fully fit for the high-pressure series later this year.
