India Women registered a historic series victory by defeating hosts England in the second ODI of the three-match series in Canterbury yesterday.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur stole the show, as she blasted her way through to a magnificent 111-ball 143* with the help of 18 fours and four sixes. Her knock propelled the visitors to a mammoth total, playing an instrumental role in their memorable 88-run victory.

Former Australian great Lisa Sthalekar heaped praise on Kaur's scintillating knock. Terming her breathtaking innings a special one, Sthalekar admitted being a fan of Kaur's incredible hitting prowess.

Coming at number four, Harmanpreet stitched a match-winning 113-run stand with Harleen Deol to consolidate the Indian innings after Smriti Mandhana's departure.

She went berserk, particularly against youngster Freya Kemp, to accumulate 62 runs in the last three overs. Such a fitting finish led India to a massive total of 333 runs, which they defended successfully, bundling England out for 245 runs.

Two sides will clash in the third dead rubber in Lord's on Saturday.
