According to emerging reports, fans will be denied the opportunity to witness Virat Kohli's return in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). As revealed by ESPNCricinfo, Delhi's inaugural VHT clash against Andhra, which will also see the comeback of Virat Kohli to the famed domestic competition, will be played behind closed doors.

KSCA asked to conduct Kohli's VHT return clash behind closed doors

Legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli will feature in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. Kohli's return to the domestic white-ball tournament is expected to result in a large crowd influx into the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

It's worth mentioning that the iconic Indian venue witnessed a horrific stampede a day after Royal Challengers Bengaluru's historic IPL title win. Following the ill-fated incident, questions were raised about the security arrangements of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The venue's right to host marquee fixtures were also threatened, with doubts looming over its future in the Indian Premier League as well.

The Karnataka government recently cleared the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to resume hosting competitive cricket matches after former fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad was elected as the new chairman of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

However, given that the horrors of the stampede incident are still fresh in everyone's memory, the state government doesn't want to take any risk in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The security concern of the fans is said to be the primary reason behind the government's decision to conduct Virat Kohli's VHT comeback affair behind closed doors.

Although it was earlier reported that the KSCA would open two stands, which would've accommodated around 2000-3000 spectators, the government opted against it, considering a large number of spectators would certainly turn up, hoping to get a seat in the stands and watch Kohli play.

Talking about Virat Kohli, the legendary cricketer has arrived in India for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He will likely play the VHT encounter Andhra before Delhi take on Gujarat, Saurashtra, Odisha, Services, Railways and Haryana in their subsequent matches.
