Kohli's performances against England could outline his T20I future, claim reports

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) not to consider him for India's upcoming T20I series against West Indies to be played in the Caribbean.

The BCCI are planning to send in a full-strength side for the five-match T20I series, which will begin on July 29.

According to Cricbuzz, senior players who were not included for the One-Day Internationals (ODI) against West Indies are likely to find a place in the squad.

The squad for the T20Is is likely to be announced ahead of the third and final 20-overs game against England on July 10, with players like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant getting a call-up.

None of those, as mentioned earlier players will feature in the 50-overs leg in West Indies, where Shikhar Dhawan and Ravindra Jadeja have been appointed as captain and vice-captain, respectively.

The first ODI between India and West Indies will be played at the Port of Spain in Trinidad on July 22.

Test veteran Ravichandran Ashwin is also inline to receive a call-up for the T20I series, who last played for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Virat Kohli's performance against England could be very crucial going ahead

Another report in the TOI indicated that Kohli's future in T20 cricket would depend on his performance in the series against England, which starts this evening, with the 1st match at Southampton.

"The T20I team has been withheld to evaluate the rest needed to be given to the top players. Rohit, Pant, and Pandya are likely to play the T20Is in West Indies. Bumrah most likely will not be travelling to the Caribbean. As for Kohli, one needs to see what the team management decides on what it needs for the T20 World Cup. This limited-overs series in England is very crucial for Kohli," a close source said.

He further added that workload management for all senior players comes up in talks and that support staff are required to inform management about their well-being.

"In every selection meeting, the issue of workload management comes up. Players like Rohit, Kohli, Pandya, Bumrah, and Shami are always talked about needing rest. All these players have always got the preference to get rest. The trainers and physios send notes to the selectors through the team management that these players need to be given rest," he concluded.
