ENG vs IND | Sunil Gavaskar believes Edgbaston pitch flattened out for home advantage

Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root walloped the Indian bowlers on their way to a record run-chase on a Day 5 Edgbaston track. The two cricketers struck unbeaten centuries and formed an undefeated 269-run stand. England's win in the decisive Test drew level the year-long five-match series 2-2.

Sunil Gavaskar weighs in on the Edgbaston pitch

Former Indian captain and active commentator Sunil Gavaskar believes the Edgbaston track flattened out in favour of the hosts on Day 5. After the match, he explained that the venue has traditionally helped the batters as the Test match progresses.

While speaking with Sports Today, Gavaskar said:

"The Birmingham pitch has generally been very good for batting as the days go on. Maybe day one it is in favour of the new ball bowlers. But as the days go on, it becomes a very good pitch to bat on. Very little help for the spinner,"

The legendary cricketer also gave his take on Virat Kohli's dismissal. He said the ball that dismissed Kohli bounced from length, something which did not happen during India's bowling.

"Whether our bowlers didn't bowl that length and line, I am not too sure. The pitch just seemed to have flattened out, and that was to England's advantage," Gavaskar added.

India to face England in six white-ball games

Team India, boosted by the return of captain Rohit Sharma, will now be facing the hosts in three T20Is and three ODI matches. The first of the three T20Is will be played on July 7 at Southampton's Rose Bowl.

The limited-overs contests between the two sides serves as a testing background for both camps ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
