CPL 2022: Imran Tahir, Tabraiz Shamsi amongst others to play for Guyana Amazon Warriors

South Africa's spin-bowling duo of Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi are all set to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 after the Guyana Amazon Warriors announced them as their overseas signings.

This will be Tahir's fifth consecutive season with the Warriors. The 43-year-old is the franchise's leading wicket-taker in the competition, snapping up 60 scalps from 43 games.

In the last edition of the CPL, Tahir was the joint-fourth highest wicket-taker with 13.

The wily-leg-spinner last played for the Multan Sultans in the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

He is also the second-highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket (451), behind West Indies' Dwayne Bravo, who has 587 wickets.

Tahir will be joined by Shamsi, who played for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots from 2015 to 2018 and has 33 wickets across his CPL career.

Former CSK player has played 38 T20I for his country, picking 63 wickets, while Shamsi has 58 from 51 appearances for South Africa.

Apart from Tahir and Shamsi, the Warriors have roped South Africans Colin Ingram and Heinrich Klaasen.

Ireland's hard-hitting opener Paul Stirling will also be joining the club for his first stint in the CPL.

The remaining six places will be filled during the CPL draft, which will be aired on television to he held on July 7.

CPL 2022 will begin on August 31 and finish on September 30, with St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, and Guyana acting as host countries.

Defending champions, the Patriots will go up against Jamaica Tallawahs in the tournament opener at Warner Park in St Kitts.

The first-ever Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) will also begin sometime this year, featuring franchises like the Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and Trinbago Knight Riders.
