TNPL 2022 | Defending champions register their first win of the tournament over Trichy

Brilliant half-century knocks by Sundararaman Radhakrishna and Uthirasamy Sasidev, followed by a disciplined bowling performance, helped the defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies register a 44-run victory over Ruby Trichy Warriors in the 12th match of the TNPL 2022 on Wednesday (July 07).

Radhakrishna played a marvellous innings of 81 (off 49 balls) while Uthirasamy Sasidev smashed 35-ball 65 as the duo stitched a mammoth partnership of 116 runs off just 66 balls to help the Super Gillies post the huge total of 203 runs on the board.

Among bowlers, Harish Kumar was the star for the defending champions as he scalped three wickets while the left-arm spin bowler Ramadoss Alexander bagged two wickets to entirely dismantle the chase of Ruby Trichy Warriors.

Hunting the huge target of 204 runs, RTW got off to a flying start as their openers – Amith Sathvik and Santosh Shiv put up an 87-run stand-off 59 balls for the opening wicket.

While Sathvik hammered 33 runs off 28 balls, Santosh whacked 38-ball 59 to keep the RTW alive in the chase. Adithya Ganesh also played a breezy, quick cameo of 19-ball 28.

However, post their dismissals, the Trichy Warriors kept losing wickets in quick succession, including those of Nirajan N, Nidhish Rajagopal and Muhammad Adnan Khan, to topple the run chase.

For Chepauk Super Gillies, Ajay Krishna and M Poiyamozhi picked up three wickets each, followed by skipper Rahil Shah, who got one wicket in his wicket tally. Poiyamozhi bowled a very expensive spell as he conceded 60 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

It was the first win for the defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies in the ongoing edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, while for Ruby Trichy Warriors, it was their second consecutive defeat in the season.
