The Indian government recently decided to levy a 28 per cent tax on online gaming, which has received backlash from the gaming and technological industry.  In the past few years, online gaming has gained momentum in India, and several fantasy sites have made fortunes, and one of the main industries to enjoy success was cricketing online gaming.

Now, BharatPe and Shark Tank-famed Ashneer Grover has lashed out at the GST council in a series of tweets, in which he has pointed out inconsistencies with the policies laid down.

Grover came down hard on regulations regarding cricket, where several superstars like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Shubman Gill, and Sourav Ganguly have endorsed fantasy games. The former TV host quizzed why the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was allowed to strike a sponsorship deal with Dream 11, which is India's leading fantasy sports gaming platform.

Here's what Grover said

"Why judgement on online gaming now? Everyone from Virat Kohli to MS Dhoni to Sourav Ganguly has endorsed online gaming. Why was India public/Govt/BCCI not outraged by all cricketers endorsing? Why was BCCI allowed to take Dream 11 as the title sponsor? Sab Doglapan hai - Tech founders are dispensable - that’s the only truth."

Kohli has funded the startup MPL, while Dhoni and Ganguly have endorsed brands like Winzo and PokerStars, and My11Circle, respectively.
