On September 18, the BCCI shared a teaser on X (formerly Twitter) featuring a special interview between India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and batting sensation Virat Kohli. The two former teammates have played together in numerous matches across various formats, and have also had their share of heated exchanges that captured media attention.

The interview has set the internet on fire as the two engage in a candid chat delving on different topics. One of which is how the two prepare for a game; over the years both Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli have displayed unique rituals that reflect their mental preparation before crucial matches.

In the interview Kohli reveals that 2014-15 Australian tour, he was often chanting "Om Namah Shivay" before each delivery, a practice that helped him focus and calm his nerves during intense moments on the field and that this spiritual mantra became part of his routine.

On the other hand, Gambhir revealed that a pre-match ritual dates back to 2009 when he listened to the "Hanuman Chalisa" for two and a half days leading up to a match in Napier. This devotional practice was his way of seeking strength and inspiration.

Gambhir Lauds Kohli For Developing Fast-Bowling Unit

Before Virat Kohli became Test captain, India's bowling lacked the aggression needed for success, resulting in frequent losses overseas. After taking over following the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Series, Kohli transformed the pace attack, nurturing bowlers like Mohammad Shami, Ishant Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah into world-class talents.

Under his leadership, India boasted the lowest bowling average (23.43) among Test teams from 2018, highlighting their effectiveness. Gautam Gambhir praised Kohli for fostering a fast-bowling culture in a spin-dominated nation, emphasizing the significant impact of Kohli's tactical brilliance on the team's performance.

Virat Kohli Makes Anticipated Return to Test Cricket

This chat comes at a very interesting juncture as it also marks the return of cricketing star Virat Kohli's return to Test cricket.

He prepares to face Bangladesh in a home series after an eight-month absence following his last match against South Africa. Kohli missed the five-Test series against England due to personal reasons. The first match, set for September 19 at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, will mark his first Test appearance at home in 18 months, making it a highly anticipated event.
