The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), one of the original eight IPL teams, have lifted the coveted trophy three times, including their most recent triumph in 2024. As defending champions, the KKR players will take center stage in IPL 2025 with a reputation to behold, especially after the departure of their title-winning skipper, Shreyas Iyer.
In a pursuit of exchanging experience with experience, the KKR team management has appointed fellow Indian international Ajinkya Rahane as team captain for the upcoming 2025 edition of the tournament. Here, we take a look at all players who have captained the KKR franchise to date, be it in either IPL or in the now-defunct Champions League T20.
KKR captains over the years
Last year, KKR became the first franchise in the history of IPL to not retain its title-winning skipper, considering the team management did not hold on to Shreyas Iyer prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction. After making several new additions to the team at the bidding event, the KKR management has now appointed Ajinkya Rahane as team’s new captain, and announced franchise zealot Venkatesh Iyer as his deputy.
Following the appointment of Rahane as new skipper, here is a look at all players who have led the KKR franchise to date.

The KKR franchise won the IPL 2024 season last year by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in a lop-sided final. The outcome marked KKR’s third IPL title, and the first in over a decade, thus becoming the third most successful franchise in tournament’s history.
KKR’s title-defense is scheduled to launch in the opening match of IPL 2025 itself. They will face the RCB franchise on March 22 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
