The controversial stint for England pacer Tom Curran in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 for Sydney Sixers has ended abruptly after the bowler sustained a knee injury.

Curran, who got picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auctions, injured his knee during an encounter against Melbourne Stars and now finds himself out of competition and also possibly out of the upcoming International League T20 (ILT20) 2024.

Curran, 28, was to turn up for Desert Vipers in ILT20, where the franchise commences its campaign on January 21, and will now head back to the UK, where team the player will undergo a thorough assessment as stated in a club statement released by Sixers.

Extent of the injury is currently not known - Sydney Sixers

"The full extent of the injury is currently not known with Curran set to return to the UK in the coming days and undergo further assessment at home."

Curran featured in just four BBL matches this season, claiming as many wickets, and was also handed a four-match ban for intimidating the fourth umpire during his pre-match routine ahead of Sydney's clash with Hobart Hurricanes.

Interestingly, Curran claimed his best season figures in the same match, claiming a 3 for 19, where the Sixers gained a six-wicket win. Prior to his ban, Curran got picked up by RCB for INR 1.5 crore during the first-ever overseas IPL auction.
