Klaasen's release to IPL auction pool has been reported [Source: AFP]
According to emerging reports, Sunrisers Hyderabad might not retain Heinrich Klaasen and release him to the IPL 2026 mini auction pool. For the unversed, the IPL teams are bound to submit their respective lists of retained players before November 15, and if reports are to be believed, Klaasen might not be one of SRH's retentions for the next IPL season.
Heinrich Klaasen could be one of SRH's major releases
Sunrisers Hyderabad finished the IPL 2024 as the runners-up, losing to eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. However, their fortunes turned in the subsequent season, as the Pat Cummins-led outfit suffered an embarrassing group-stage exit and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
SRH managed six wins across fourteen appearances, which is the reason why they might tinker with their existing squad to change their fortunes in the IPL 2026. That said, Heinrich Klaasen didn't exactly have a forgettable season. The swashbuckling South African hammered 487 runs in thirteen innings at an average of 44.27 and a blistering strike rate of 172.70.
However, the batter had a slump in form in the Major League Cricket and The Hundred, scoring 293 runs across both tournaments at a miserable average of 19.53. So, the dip in his batting form could be one of the reasons why SRH could be tempted to part ways with Heinrich Klaasen.
According to The Times of India (TOI), Klaasen's budget of INR 23 Crores is the primary reason why SRH might be interested in releasing the batter into the IPL 2026 auction pool. The report also added that despite releasing Klaasen, the Orange Army might look to buy him back at a lower price of around 15 Crores.
"There are strong murmurs and it could well be a smart move by SRH if they do that. Going into the auction with Rs 23 crore more allows them a reasonable shot to fill in the crucial gaps - assemble a penetrating bowling attack and get their middle-order act right. They can even have a fair shot at getting the South African back (for) around Rs 15 crore and the balance can help them do some effective shopping," a source was quoted as saying by TOI.
Klaasen has played 42 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring 1414 runs at a magnificent average of 44.19 and a strike rate of 173.50. If SRH release him, the South African batter will definitely be one of the hottest properties in the IPL mini auction.
