In a significant development, England are reportedly making a strategic move ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and the USA, aiming to reclaim the title they secured in 2022 in Australia.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is said to be in talks to bring on board former West Indian cricketer Kieron Pollard as a consultant coach for the tournament.

In a bid to replicate the successful consultant role played by Mike Hussey during the T20 World Cup 2022 campaign in Australia, the ECB is looking to leverage Pollard's expertise. This decision comes on the heels of England's lacklustre performance in the recently concluded ODI World Cup and their 3-2 loss in the T20I series against the West Indies.

Pollard's signing is likely to be a temporary one, considering his ongoing commitments with teams like MI New York and MI Emirates. While he won't be available full-time due to his active involvement in various leagues, Pollard is expected to join the England team during the T20 World Cup, commencing in early June.

“Pollard brings an intimate knowledge of conditions in the West Indies. The Trinidadian will help England to assess the pitches in the T20 World Cup, which begins on June 4. He will play a similar role to Mike Hussey, the former Australian batsman, in the 2022 T20 World Cup victory,”  a report in The Telegraph stated.

The Trinidadian cricketer, known as a Y20 globetrotter, brings an intimate knowledge of the conditions in the West Indies and in the USA, having played for MI New York. His role is envisioned to be similar to that of Mike Hussey, providing valuable insights into assessing home pitches during the tournament.

During the final two T20Is of the recently concluded five-match series between England and the West Indies, Pollard was reportedly seen at a hotel in Trinidad where the England team stayed.

Although Pollard has retired from the IPL, he still continues to contribute to the cash-rich league and the franchise as the batting coach for MI and actively participates as a player in various franchise leagues worldwide.
