After the famous M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka is likely to get its second international cricket stadium, in Mysuru. The idea of having an international stadium in Mysuru has been around for a long time, and now it finally looks like it might come true.
Recent updates suggest that the Karnataka state government is ready to support the project and begin construction soon.
CM Siddaramaiah Confirms The Plan
On April 24, Thursday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah officially announced that Mysuru will soon have a fully-equipped international-level cricket stadium. He said that the government is working on identifying the land for the project and that all the necessary steps will be completed soon.
Once everything is done, the land will be handed over to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to start building the stadium.
According to reports, about 26 acres of land have been identified for the stadium in a village called Huyilalu village, near Mysuru city.
Just a day before the Cabinet meeting on April 24, Star of Mysore Prathap Simhav urged the state government to approve it as soon as possible, calling it a “long-awaited necessity” for Mysuru. He mentioned that the stadium was earlier planned in Sathagalli, but the presence of a lake there could have caused environmental and legal issues. So now, the government has chosen the Huyilalu location, where all the formalities are already completed.
Why Is The Move Important For Karnataka?
Many other states in India like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan already have more than one international cricket stadium. These states often host big matches in different cities.
Karnataka, despite having a strong cricket culture, has only one international stadium in Bengaluru. So, this new stadium in Mysuru will finally fill that gap and give fans another place to enjoy cricket.
