South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been added to the national squad for the upcoming series-deciding second Test against Team India. Ngidi, who last played a Test for South Africa back in June 2025 at Lord’s for the WTC final against Australia, has been recalled as an injury replacement of fellow paceman Kagiso Rabada.

It is worth noting that Rabada was excluded from the South African playing XI in the first Test owing to his rib injury as reported by Cricbuzz.

Lungi Ngidi joins SA as primary pacer for second Test

South Africa took field in the series-opening first Test against India at the Eden Gardens last week without the services of their senior fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, considering the cricketer was ruled out of the playing XI owing to a rib injury.

The 30-year-old has now been ruled out of the upcoming second Test of the tour, prompting the South African team management and selection committee to rope in Lungi Ngidi as his replacement.

Ngidi made his Test debut back in January 2018, and has so far played just 20 matches in the format in his near eight-year career so far. He played the last of those 20 matches in June at Lord’s, picking up three match-winning wickets in the second innings against WTC defending champions Australia.

Notably, even in Kagiso Rabada’s absence, South Africa won the first Test of the ongoing two-match series against India by 30 runs. Ace spinner Simon Harmer came to the fore for the Proteas by picking up two four-wicket hauls, including figures of 4-21 in the decisive innings on Day 3 to fold up India for just 93 in their chase of 124.

With a 1-0 lead in the bag, South Africa will now face Team India in the second Test between November 22 and November 26 in Guwahati.
