In a significant development, swashbuckling batter Tilak Varma is all set to make his ODI debut in India's final Super Four game against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023

Notably, Tilak was a part of India’s T20I playing XI against West Indies, where he slammed a couple of scintillating knocks. However, he had a modest Irish tour, failing to perform up to the mark against the home team.

Despite his failures in Ireland, the stylish southpaw was preferred for the Asia Cup 2023 ahead of keeper-batter Sanju Samson. However, the youngster couldn’t make it into India’s 2023 World Cup squad, with the Men in Blue preferring the first-choice batting options for the marquee event.

Considering India have qualified for the Asia Cup final, it was expected that they would make several drastic changes to their first-choice playing XI. As Tilak has been presented with his debut ODI cap, it will be interesting to see which top-order batter misses out on the dead rubber against Bangladesh in Colombo.

Toss update

India won the toss and opted to bowl this time. India, having previously favoured batting first, sprung a surprise at the Asia Cup 2023 by winning the toss and electing to bowl against Bangladesh for the first time in the tournament.
