Former cricketer Aakash Chopra believes the Indian team management should bench senior members from the side for their Asia Cup 2023 dead-rubber against Bangladesh.

Team India, having already stormed into the finals, will face Bangladesh at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo a couple of days before the title clash.

Aakash Chopra believes Shreyas Iyer should get a chance

Team India thumped Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka with convincing margins in successive games this Asia Cup 2023. Several senior members like Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya played starring roles in their team's success by stepping up at various stages of the competition.

Former Indian opening batsman Aakash Chopra thinks the team management should rest at least Virat Kohli from playing XI for their upcoming Asia Cup tie against Bangladesh. The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that Shreyas Iyer should get a chance, considering the dynamic middle-order batter seems to have recovered from his back spasm. Chopra, while taking to his YouTube channel, said:

“The elders have already shown their form. I am talking about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. So if I have to play Shreyas Iyer, and I do feel he should be played, I will ask Virat to take rest.”

Shreyas Iyer was inducted into India's Asia Cup 2023 squad after recovering from his back injury in March this year. The cricketer spent his subsequent months training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) alongside fellow injured teammates Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul.
