England speedster Jofra Archer is set to take part in his side’s title-defence by flying to India for next month’s World Cup 2023. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed Archer’s presence in the squad as a travelling reserve, even though he continues to recover from his injury.

Earlier this year, the cricketer sustained a stress fracture on his elbow while plying his trade for the Mumbai Indians franchise in IPL 2023 season. While the 28-year-old has not played a single competitive match since his injury, he was recently seen bowling at the nets alongside the rest of his English teammates during their home series against New Zealand.

Archer to fly to India as travelling reserve

Jofra Archer’s fitness troubles kept him out of England’s 15-player World Cup 2023 squad, as announced by the ECB last month. However, national selector Luke Wright has confirmed that the speed maverick will indeed travel to India with the squad, albeit as a travelling reserve.

Wright further added that Archer will be working on his rehab on India tour and the team management will pull off their best efforts in speedster’s full recovery.

“The best thing for Jofra is to travel with the team and keep working with his rehab and being around the physios and the team. We are doing all we can to get him ready to be as good as he can be.”

In an official statement, the ECB selector also added that Archer might well take field for the team if an injury occurs to any of the frontline players during the backend of the tournament.

England will commence their World Cup 2023 campaign with a match against familiar foes New Zealand on October 5.

Here is a look at England’s entire 15-player squad for the tournament:
