'We Are Hoping...' - Ajit Agarkar Gives Major Updates On Axar Patel's Fitness

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled team’s squad for the upcoming three-match home ODI series against Australia. Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma have been rested from the first two matches, allowing KL Rahul to don the leadership hat for the time being.

The two senior pros will make a return for the third match, just in time to get some on-field action prior to next month’s 2023 World Cup at home.

Axar Patel, who featured in India's victorious Asia Cup 2023 squad, was ruled out of the title clash due to a hamstring injury he sustained during team's Super Four outing against Bangladesh. The star all-rounder has been replaced by Washington Sundar for the first two Australia ODIs and is expected to return for the third if his fitness permits him to play.

BCCI selector Ajit Agarkar hopes for speedy Axar recovery

BCCI chief selector and former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar is hopeful for Axar Patel’s full recovery in time for the third ODI match against Australia. During a recent press conference, Agarkar said:

“We are hoping Axar Patel is fit for the third encounter. R Ashwin and Washington Sundar are also included for the third ODI.”

Earlier this month, Axar Patel was selected in India’s 15-player squad for the imminent World Cup 2023 at home between October and November. The series against Australia serves as India’s final set of fixtures prior to the quadrennial event.
