In a significant development, England's star seamer Jofra Archer is all set to return to red-ball cricket after four years and has been added to the squad for the 2nd Test against India. The ECB took to social media platform to announce the addition of right-arm seamer to the 15-member list for the upcoming Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 2-6.
Notably, Archer has not replaced any existing player from the squad, but the Three Lions have expanded their team from a 14-member squad to now 15 stars available for selection.
Here is the updated squad for the 2nd Test
Ben Stokes (Durham) – Captain, Jofra Archer (Sussex), Shoaib Bashir (Somerset), Jacob Bethell (Warwickshire), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Brydon Carse (Durham), Sam Cook (Essex), Zak Crawley (Kent), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Jamie Overton (Surrey), Ollie Pope (Surrey), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jamie Smith (Surrey), Josh Tongue (Nottinghamshire), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)
Jofra Archer Features For Sussex
Before being adde to the 2nd Test, Archer had to impress the selectors as he recently recovered from an injury. As a part of match preparation, Archer was asked to play for Sussex, where the right-arm seamer took a solitary wicket.
Archer, playing for Sussex against Durham registered the figures of 1/32 and looked in great shape, which pleased the selectors and they decided to include Archer for the 2nd Test.
England Chief Selector Hinted About Archer's Inclusion
Notably, Archer was set to be a part of England's squad from the first Test, but suffered an injury during IPL 2025 that ruled him out of action. However, even before the start of the India-England series, the chief selector had hinted that Archer would feature in the 2nd Test.
"Jof's also trucking along really well actually. The plan is for him to play a few second team games, loading up in the second team for Sussex. And then the idea for him is to play for Sussex against Durham during the first Test. So he'll play for Sussex if all things go well, and then if all things go well fingers crossed he should be available for the second Test," said Wright after the announcement of England'squad for 1st Test.
Now it is to be seen whether Archer will get a place in the playing XI in 2nd Test or not.
