In a significant development, England has announced the playing XI for the 1st ODI against India at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium. The main highlight is that Joe Root has been included in the playing XI, marking his return to ODI cricket after more than a year.
Joe Root Makes Comeback To ODI Format
It is important to mention that Root’s inclusion will strengthen England’s middle order, particularly in spin-friendly conditions, where his ability to anchor the innings will be crucial. His addition will also add experience and stability to the middle order, making him an important player as England looks to start the series on a strong note after the series loss in T20I.
Talking about the rest of the playing XI, England have opted for the same opening duo of Ben Duckett and Phil Salt.
While it is likely expected that Root will play at his usual No. 3 position, followed by captain Jos Buttler at No. 4 position and Harry Brook at No. 5. The team has opted for a balanced mix of all-rounders and bowlers, with Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell taking up the all-rounder roles.
In the bowling department, England have gone with Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse and Saqib Mahmood, alongside Adil Rashid as the frontline spinner. Notably, Mahmood, who impressed in the fourth T20I, has been included in place of Mark Wood.
